S.E.R.V.E

Rooted in Romans 12, S.E.R.V.E. is our simple pathway to help you step into meaningful community and faithful service at BBC. A life shaped by God’s mercy is never lived alone—God places us among His people and equips us with gifts for His people. Service, then, becomes the natural overflow of belonging, not a burden. Through S.E.R.V.E., you’re invited to See how God has wired you, Explore where you fit, Risk taking a next step, Visit a team for a season, and ultimately Embed yourself in community. This isn’t about filling gaps, but forming lives – becoming the kind of unified, diverse, and interdependent body Romans 12 describes.

SERVE PATHWAY

Step One

See How God Has Wired You

Click the link below to access a custom form that will evaluate your Spiritual Gifts, Passions and Abilities.  The test will take about 15 minutes, so we encourage you to take the time to do the entire assessment in one sitting.

Once you have completed the assessment, you will receive a PDF with the summary, and an opportunity to view Serve Team areas that are best suited to your gift mix.

If you would like any assistance, please feel free to email church@bbc.org.za

Step Two

EXPLORE WHERE YOU FIT

There are over 30 Serving Opportunities at BBC! Once you have completed the Assessment Above, you’ll be directed to a page listing the Serve Teams at BBC with a link to apply to join the team.   This page will show you which Serve Teams are best suited to your particular gift-mix.

If you would like any help with the Serve Teams, or if you’d prefer someone to assist you personally, feel free to click the button below.

Step THREE

RISK TAKING YOUR NEXT STEP

We know that taking your next step can feel risky. You might feel unsure, under-qualified, too busy, or even a little afraid. That’s okay. Almost everyone who has ever stepped into serving felt that way at first.

At BBC, we believe God often grows us as we step out, not once we feel “ready.” Serving isn’t about having it all together – it’s about showing up, being willing, and trusting God to work through ordinary people.

When you take a step into community and a Serve Team, you won’t be doing it alone. We are committed to journeying with you – helping you discover where you fit, grow in confidence, and use the gifts God has placed in you.

So don’t wait until you feel perfectly equipped. Take the risk. Step into community. Say yes to the next step — and let’s walk the journey together.

You may want to take a few moments to pray this prayer to encourage you to take this step:

Dear Lord, I know that You have gifted me, and called me into community. Please help me to overcome any fear or concerns I may have about, including past hurts. Help me to take a step of faith and to pursue community and serving at BBC.  Amen.

Step FOUR

VISIT FOR A SEASON

We know that making the decision to join a Serve Team is a big one – and you may be concerned that you’re committing for life. That is why we invite you to Visit a ministry/Serve Team for a few weeks before committing.

We also know that the first, or even second or third, ministry you visit may not be the perfect fit for you. So don’t feel pressure! Feel free to Visit a few ministries until you find ‘your tribe’.

Step FIVE

EMBED YOURSELF IN THE SERVE TEAM

Our goal is not for you to fill a gap. Our desire is for you to find a place where you truly belong.

As you discover how God has wired you, explore different Serve Teams, and take the risk of visiting a ministry area, our hope is that you won’t just find something to do – but a community to join.

At BBC, we love seeing Serve Teams doing life together, not just serving together. As we serve side by side, friendships are formed, support is offered, and prayers are prayed. Community grows naturally when we show up consistently and walk the journey together.

One gentle encouragement: embedding yourself in a Serve Team takes intentionality. It means giving yourself time to get to know people, being present beyond a single moment, and allowing relationships to form. But the reward is worth it – a community that knows you, supports you, and walks with you as you follow Jesus.
